signing into iCloud on my new MacBook Air

I've tried everything. restarting the device, having the correct password. but it keeps coming up with unknown verification error

See if any of the following can help:

  • Start by checking Apple System Status to make sure all of their iCloud services are running.
  • Reboot your Mac into Safe Mode. Then try signing in again. Ref: Use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support
  • If you previously signed into iCloud or added an Apple Account under System Settings > Internet Accounts, remove it and try again from System Settings > Apple Account directly.
  • Go to System Settings > General > Date & Time and ensure “Set date and time automatically” is enabled.
