How to disable liquid glass in iOS 26?
Is there a way to completely disable the liquid glass functionality on iOS 26? I'm not going to get into a lengthy diatribe over why it's awful, I just want it gone.
iPhone 13 Pro Max, iOS 18

I’m also having problems with the IOS 26.1 Liquid Glass UI.
Then you should read through the 21 pages of answers for help. Maybe this will help-

If Apple doesn’t fix the Liquid Glass contrast problems ASSP I will have no other choice but to buy an Android phone.
This is a user to user forum, we don't care what brand you buy.
I just tried to submit feedback re Liquid Glass, but the terms button is not working. What the H E double hockey sticks is going on??
Here is what I was trying to say:
I am 48 yrs old, and I just got prescribed glasses and contacts for the first time. My nearsightedness is the one thing I can rely on without glasses. Liquid Glass has ruined that for me. Everything is blurry as if I didn't have my glasses on. Please release an OS update that allows the user to make Liquid Glass optional. It is truly mean to make anyone older than 45 feel like they can’t see when their eye sight is already becoming an issue. In short, Liquid Glass is a completely ageist / disability UNfriendly feature that completely ignores the needs or comfort of what I can only assume is the majority of users. Especially parents; we pay for all the devices in our household. Why would you force a feature that is only appropriate for a 20-yr old? It is literally giving me a headache, and it’s been on for less than 24 hours.
It would be a great if Apple/iOS could provide a way to opt-out from it. Because this liquid glass design is not nice, looks subpar compare to my old iPhone 14 pro. I see iPhone 17 is going backwards in its look & feel.

Hello~ Do you have a technical question or answer for us?
~Katana-San~
This was more of a feedback to Apple, if that helps as I'd also like to turn it off if it were possible.
So my question is whether Apple has any plans to make this theme an opt-out feature for users that don't like it.
I just got the update. I’m very displeased. If anyone from Apple reads this: Liquid Glass is my final frustration. My next new phone is in 9 or 10 months. It won’t be an iPhone unless i can turn off Liquid Glass. I bought this device. And you changed it in an awful way.
I have no idea how to fix this problem. I have tried everything that has been suggested …. But the screen is too dark … and I cannot read maps it when I am driving and it is sitting in the phone holder. Any suggestions for lightening the screen. Both phones are iPhone 14 … the one on the right has not been upgraded 😮

If you have turned brightness up on the phone on the left and it isn't making the screen brighter, you likely have a hardware issue with the screen and you'll need to schedule an appointment at your Apple Store Genius Bar for evaluation and service options --> Genius Bar Reservation and Apple Support Options - Apple
The white point setting makes a difference, thanks for that tip. What's your recommendation to get the time displayed on the home screen sharp and crisp again and not in that "see through" liquid glass? I can barely read the time on my home screen now after the update to the Liquid Glass version.
The answers here are pretty unsatisfactory to me... even reducing the font size and disabling transparency, it does not solve the terrible, space-wasteful layouts and the distracting animations. All of this ignoring that your phone looks really bad now, even more with those accessibility options which are not the main design the apps were made with in mind.
I just hope Apple reverts this in the short future, otherwise I am definitely leaving the Apple ecosystem.
Please don’t double post in threads.
If the use of your device is that impacted by the design change, by all means switch to an Android device. You need to do what’s best for you. Don’t wait for Apple to change Liquid Glass. The vast majority of users are enjoying the look and the changes.
I get it that nothing I’ve written has really helped. This is a user to user set of forums/communities. Apple does not participate here. You can voice your opinions to Apple, where it really matters, at the link below.
Good luck.
It might be coincidence but I installed the latest IOS this morning and I have experienced really poor battery life today. Never have I had an issue with the battery but after the update, its now significantly really low (7%) and I have not played any games on my iphone mini 13, no videos watched, absolutely nothing out of the ordinary. I have had and not made any phonecalls. I used whatsapp once to send a message and that is all...........coincidence or is this going to be a way that apple have found to drain your battery making you think you need to update your phone or replace the battery. Sneaky..........I don't mind the update, looks nice, but its certainly not perfect but I hate the fact that I will probably now need to charge my phone twice a day rather than just at night.
grrrrrrrrrrrr

No, it's not a coincidence. In fact, it's expected and normal. Even after the update is "done," a lot of stuff is going on in the background. It can take a couple of days for all that housekeeping to finish.

Only for a couple of days.

You can turn on “Show Borders” (also in accessibility > display & text size) and it’s still not great but it does get rid of the worst part of the “glass” effect
That's a good suggestion. I don't recall seeing it before.

I hadn't considered switching to Android until this 26.1 update and my phone looks like a 20 year old's toy. I loathe this look beyond words. I will never ever ever go blindly and trustingly into an update again.
