Scrolling lag on MacBook trackpad after upgrading to macOS Tahoe

I recently upgraded my MacBook to macOS Tahoe and since then the built-in and magic trackpad have been laggy when scrolling. The motion feels stuttery instead of smooth. Restarting my MacBook temporarily fixes the problem, but after some time the lag returns and I have to restart again, which is quite bothersome. Has anyone else experienced this after upgrading to Tahoe?

Found that Bartender App was causing the problem in my case. Quit all processes one by one and determined this was the culprit. Scrolling is a much better experience now. Hope it helps someone.

I will admit I was totally incredulous that Bartender would be the culprit, but as soon as I quit it the issue resolved.

I never would have thought to suspect Bartender. Thank you for saving me hours (probably) of debugging!

Hey friends, you're not alone! Just yesterday, my MacBook started lagging with both the trackpad and keyboard, and it's been really frustrating. I tried restarting it in Safe Mode, but now even in Safe Mode, the keyboard types on its own. To work around the issue, I had to go to Apple and get a Magic Trackpad and Magic Keyboard. I think Apple needs to investigate the Tahoe update, as the problem persists even after the upgrade. Maybe we upgraded too early?

Definitely NOT Bartender in my case - was excited when I first read that - deinstalled pushed - rebooted - ran clean my Mac - there is nothing left of bartender on this Mac - and still the problem remains. The idea of booting in Safe Mode is good - going to try that.

This creepy "cleanmymac" is what almost certainly corrupted your user account files.

Help please? I'm having a similar problem after upgrading Lightroom Classic from v14 to 15 and upgrading to Tahoe. Scrolling in Lightroom Classic quickly becomes very laggy and even takes the app over for 10-20 seconds at a time. When I startup in safe mode the problem goes away. I disabled a few old startup/login items, but that didn't solve the problem. Checked activity monitor, but nothing jumps out at me. I'm not super-techy and can't seem to figure this out on my own. It was suggested here to run Etrecheck and post the report. I'm doing that in hopes of some help. Thanks!

Here's a link to download the Etrecheck report

I've also copied and pasted it in the "extra text." Thanks again!

Hello all - well - my problem is finally fixed - and I was so excited that I wrote about it here. Bottom line - I used ChatGPT who bottomed it out in around 10 minutes. In the post I also included the terminal commands - because yes - it was that deep that finally fixed me.

Unconvinced that what I had is related to anything else reported here - but since I had been posting, asking for help - and getting help - thank you - it seemed right to offer a solution which might not work for you - but also an approach - that might.
