Touch ID & Apple Password Autofill Popup Stuck in Loop After First Use on macOS

Every time I restart my MacBook and use Apple’s password autofill (via Touch ID) for the first time, everything works as expected: I use Touch ID, select the password I want, and the login is completed normally.

However, after this first autofill usage, the password autofill window (including the Touch ID prompt) starts popping up repeatedly, every few minutes, regardless of the website or app I’m using. The window keeps appearing, asking for my fingerprint, even when I’m not trying to autofill a password. These popups continue until I restart the MacBook.

To summarize:

  • The problem begins after the first legitimate usage of Apple password autofill after a restart.
  • Afterward, the Touch ID/password autofill window appears randomly and persistently.
  • The popups are unrelated to a specific app or website—they occur everywhere in the system.
  • A restart temporarily resolves the issue, but it returns after the next autofill usage.
