Incorrect time zone on MacBook Air after system update

My MacBook Air has recently started setting the incorrect timezone. I live in the central (Chicago) timezone, however the unit thinks that I am in the eastern time zone and sets NYC as my closest city. I assume this has something to do with the latest system update, as this is the only change I know of - and it seems to be around the same time this began happening.

I realize that I can turn off automatic setting, and manually set the time. I have done this, however this causes issues at times when trying to set up or login to certain accounts (it does something to the security or SSL I guess). In order to remedy that situation, I have to turn automatic time setting back on, do whatever the particular task I need to do, and then turn the auto time back off in order to have the correct time for my system.

Although this isn't a huge issue, it is inconvenient and frankly unacceptable from a prestigious and premium priced brand. I welcome any and all information or remedies someone has.
