pending payment but no charge?

i recently bought an in-app purchase in an attempt to gift it. long story short, purchase won't work and i'm attempting to refund the gift i bought twice. however, the charges are still labeled as pending in settings, therefore i can't request a refund.

in my bank account, however, there isn't a charge for either item, which is making me wonder how these items were meant to be paid for. i have money on the card linked to my apple pay to pay for both items (which is the card i used) so i'm not sure why it's an issue.

also, reaching out for support on the app i purchased from wouldn't be helpful, as they have already stated that it must be handed by apple due to it being an in-app purchase.

any help would be appreciated!

  • When did you make the purchase?
  • Pending charges cannot be refunded because the transaction has not been finalized.
  • Are you sure Apple Pay was a payment option and it was not billed to the card on file that you have on your Apple Account located here. This is different than using Apple Pay and in-app purchases will start at the top payment method you see here, which is always your Apple Account and if you do not have a balance on your Apple Account it will then proceed to the payment method under that and continue down the list until the payment can be processed: Add a payment method to your Apple Account - Apple Support

You can contact Apple here for any issues with the charge not being completed:
