How to stop Apple News from scrolling back to top when I read and close an article.

I am running OS 26.0.1 on my iPad and when I read and close an article in Apple News “Today” section, the News automatically scrolls back up to the top of “Today.” This means that I have to then scroll back down to find my place in “Today” so that I can see more articles that I haven’t gotten to yet.

I’ve turned off Background App refresh, I’ve deleted and reloaded the app, and I’ve turned my iPad off and back on. I’ve reported the issue to Apple. Any other thoughts before I give up on News altogether?
