iPhone 13 mini CarPlay messages and Siri not playing aloud

iphone 13 mini. Apple Car Play, will not play aloud messages. Siri, is also silenced. I have tried to adjust the volume while calling Siri, and while messages are playing (which they are not doing, although the Siri logo is apparent) , to no avail. Nothing else is silenced. Have read the other threads re this issue and I've verified all other settings are set to announce. Tried the slider while Siri is either responding or listening (all silenced) and the slider volume is set to 22. I also attempted to silence and unsilence via toggle while trying to message. I've rebooted the phone. Also, when attempting to voice send a message to someone, it does not work, it's all silenced. All other audio functions in other apps are working ok, like maps, phone messages, phone.
