I note on the MAS Github that they acknowledge there is an issue due to changes in MacOS, and v4 is hopefully going to fix. the current release v3.0.1, does not.

I too have been experiencing odd mas command inability to complete updates recently, it will report an app from the Mac app store needing an upgrade but will fail the process to install after years of working as expected. Oddly when I first go to the App Store it won't actually show the app as needing an update, if I click on the app then it will eventually offer the update button. I believe this odd behaver is what is confounding the mas function as well. At this point is only useful at alerting me that there is an update.

This is odd! And it seem to me to be a problem with Mac App Store in MacOS 26.1.
