Volume down button on iphone 14pro feels strange!!

I've hit a strange snag with my iPhone 14 Pro and I'm hoping someone here has seen this before. My Volume Up button is perfect—it has that crisp, satisfying click and feels easy to press.

The Volume Down button, however, is giving me grief. It's working fine (it changes the volume), but it feels completely different. It's much harder to push, and I barely get that responsive 'click' anymore; it mostly feels mushy.

I initially thought it was just some dust or gunk, so I gave it a good clean, but that didn't help. The weirdest part is that this issue is totally intermittent. Sometimes, the button will suddenly feel totally normal and click perfectly, just like the Volume Up one. But then, after an hour or two, it goes right back to being hard and mushy.

I'm starting to think this isn't just surface dirt. Has anyone else experienced this annoying stiff/mushy button feel on their 14 Pro? Any advice on what might be causing it?

The intermittent “mushy” feel on the iPhone 14 Pro’s Volume Down button is usually caused by either tiny debris, internal spring misalignment, or minor mechanical defect. External cleaning often won’t fully fix it. Try pressing repeatedly, checking without a case, or gently using compressed air. If it persists, Apple support can replace the button assembly under warranty.

Umm, In my specific case, when I visited the Authorized Service Center, the technician was exceptionally helpful and accommodating. Since the issue was minor (just requiring a deep clean) and didn't involve replacing any spare parts, they were kind enough to resolve it on the spot, complimentary.

It seems that sometimes, a polite approach and the discretion of a kind employee can lead to minor issues being fixed for free, even outside of the official warranty, provided no parts or extensive labor are needed. I was fortunate they were able to assist me in this way.

Thank you for your detailed advice regarding the issue I was facing Your points about debris and mechanical issues were very insightful.

I wanted to let you know that I took the phone to an Apple Authorized Service Center. They performed a thorough internal cleaning, and I'm happy to report that the Volume Down button is now working perfectly fine, just as it did before.
