How old is old? Macbook pro and magic mouse 2 capability

Is it true that my MacBook Pro 13 inch 2017, two thunderbolt 3 ports is "too old" to support a Magic Mouse 2 and it's full capacities, i.e. the touch/track pad on the mouse? Is my laptop limited now to Ventura 13.7.8?

any guesses why this particular model of mouse won't work to it's full capacity then? I am assuming it's because my computer is now limited to Ventura and this mouse requires a higher version of the OS.

That would be the reason.

Most keyboards and mice are pretty generic and will work with a wide range of USB- or Bluetooth-equipped PCs and Macs, but Apple keeps raising the system requirements for their mice and keyboards.

I believe that this is probably because the Apple mice and keyboards have a few things that aren't standard (like the touch surface on the Magic Mouse, or pairing a keyboard by plugging in a cable). Instead of distributing separate drivers, Apple builds them into macOS and includes drivers going forwards. But this leaves older Macs out in the cold.
