Why does Facebook have wide side borders on iPad mini?
Why, on the current iPad mini, does Facebook have such wide side useless borders?

Facebook does not have a native Mac app. It runs in a web browser. According to yourself, there is no issue on the Mac but there is on an iPad. Facebook runs on iPad/iPhone with an app written by Facebook. That tells me that the issue is with the Facebook app itself. Thus Jonathan Burger's suggestion to "ask Facebook" is a good one.
