Apple Mac Mini

Recently spoke to an Apple rep. in a store. I have always been curious about the Apple Mac Mini. The representative was very encouraging and answered most of my questions. He even suggested that I might like buying a refurbished Mac Mini for around $600.00. So, of course, I checked that out and found the cheapest at around $749.00. Recently I checked refurbished again and found one that seemed like a good selling price. The drawback was many more were reduced but the costs were way out of my ballpark. So if I am looking for the most updated Mac Mini what is the right price. And would anyone care to share a brand name for a monitor? Thank You for being patient.

You need to check back at the Apple Refurbished pages often as

what is offered will be constantly changing. Some might be reduced

in price a bit more than others because of minor cosmetic issues but

will be 100% operational.

Buying a refurbished Mini directly from Apple will be like buying

new. It will be covered by a full one year Apple warranty and will also

be eligible for the extended AppleCare which when purchased adds

an additional two years of full hardware coverage and direct Apple support.

Yes, I plan to check with refurbished. I have read more negative about the Mac Mini than positive. The Apple store representative told me the Mac Mini blows away the the I Mac. I assumed he meant the latest version. And when he quoted the price I was excited to find it. Now, I am troubled because if the price is right will it take care of all my needs. Would I need to look at something more expensive. I am thinking of traveling and the size is small enough to pack in my baggage if needed. Plus I need to figure out a monitor. At least 15” or more to attach to the Mac Mini with electrical adapters from 220 to 110. A built in switch would be so nice. I am thinking of a laptop as well. My question is what should I do?

Well, if you are reading here and at other help sites you are mostly going to hear negatives because people come here for help with problems. The post that reads "I just bought an Apple Mac mini and I'm thrilled to death!" does happen, but it is rare. However, I could write such a post myself.

My recommendation is to figure out how you need to use the computer to determine if a portable or a desktop is right. Of course if you have deep pockets, buy both. But seriously, I've always said to get a notebook if you need portability, not if you just want it. You pay more and get less when you buy a notebook and this is especially true in the ultra-thin portable world of the Mac. You have to buy for the future because there is no upgrading. The mini RAM can be upgraded, and being a desktop if you run out of drive space an external drive is no big deal. Because the notebook is portable it is more likely to be damaged or stolen. I always recommend AppleCare+ for notebooks and buy it myself. I seldom do for desktops. Theft insurance is another non-negotiable as far as I'm concerned and you'll find restrictions when you go to insure your notebook that you don't have to worry about with a desktop.
