Why do they show up under recently used when I never used it?

I think until you have a group of roughly 30 emoji's you recently and commonly use (enough to fill the first few columns dedicated to recents) it has 30 pre-defined commonly used emojis. They should repopulate with your personal recently used emojis once it gets enough data. That's my understanding of it anyway.
