Cannot Eject External Hard drives
Hi,
We are a team of video producers/ editors/ camera men and regularly use external hard drives to share huge numbers of files, film footage etc.
I'm running on a Macbook Pro 15" with 4 of the new thunderbolt 3 ports as standard, I use a variety of different capacity hard drives, as well as brands, so I'm confident the fault isn't with them, they work on my older mac and PC's flawlessly.
Everything was running just fine on high sierra, until i upgraded to Mojave, currently on version 10.14.5
Now, I can plug in an external hard drive and it will work fine, I can edit of it etc, it's just when it comes to ejecting the hard drive when the problems start. No matter how I try to eject, wether I right click on it on the desktop, drag it to the recycle bin, or eject in disk utility, as soon as i've actioned the ejection, the hard drive icon is no longer selectable, finder no longer works and the colour wheel appears. Other apps on the machine are still functional, e.g. if chrome is open, still runs and works as normal, but I just can use finder, or anything associated with the hard drive.
The result is that I have to do a forced shut down on the laptop.
However, if i just pull the hardrive out the macbook keeps working as normal.
It's only started happening when I upgraded to Mojave. I'm really worried about the condition of the hard drives, forced shutdowns are not good for them and just pulling them out is even worse. The footage stored is obviously very valuable to us, so having an external hard drive go down would be disastrous!
Does anyone have a workaround for this, or know of this problem,
Thanks!
Eddy
