Bluetooth keyboard

I’m unable to connect my bluetooth keyboard after a restart on my iPad. I have tried turning both my keyboard and iPad on and off and I do get a link. I press it and it says type (random number) and I do but then nothing happens. What should I do?

Was this keyboard paired to your iPad previously? Is it paired to any other device, which is on and nearby? Are you using the pairing instructions which came with the keyboard?
