Messages all deleted

Why have all of my messages been deleted off my phone, and how do I get them back? I've tried doing a hard reset, and turning iMessage off and on.

Is your iPhone's storage full?

Check Settings > General > iPhone Storage and never allow the free space to fall below 10% of the total storage space.
