This Apple article may help. Specifically, refer to the section that asks you to do the following:

Your Mac can use Wireless Diagnostics to perform additional analysis.

  1. Quit any apps that are open, and connect to your Wi-Fi network, if possible.
  2. Hold down the Option key and choose Open Wireless Diagnostics from the Wi-Fi status menu .
  3. Enter your administrator name and password when prompted.

Wireless Diagnostics begins analyzing your wireless environment:

In addition you may want to try performing an NVRAM reset, which in addition to reseting a number of stored parameters also forces you to restart the system, which is sometimes all that is needed to correct an intermittent issue.

If you continue to experience issues with WiFi you'll need to tell us a bit more about which model iMac you have, whether you've been able to confirm that your wireless router is working, whether your iMac can see the wireless network in the network preferences, etc. Good luck.
