Updating contacts off of iCloud onto my new XS Max

I just replaced a lost iPhone and have a new one. How do I download all my contacts etc. from iCloud on my new phone;?

Sign into Settings/Your Name/iCloud using the same Apple ID that was used to sync your data to iCloud and turn the desired syncing on. Allow plenty of time for syncing. The photos sync is very, very slow.

If you weren't syncing your data to iCloud, restore from a backup. Restoring from a backup erases all data currently on your device. Any data newer than when the backup was made will be erased. A restore is an all or nothing restore. You can't access a backup and only restore certain files.
