I have followed the instructions given for the iPhone xs but it does not restart, it just switches off!...i just get the power off slider to turn it off.

You need to continue to hold the side button until you see the Apple logo.

Press the volume up button then press the volume down button then press and hold the side button until you see the Apple logo.
