iMessages no longer syncing

Ever since the latest update, iMessages has been an absolute mess -- messages will sync randomly or not at all between my iPhone and my Macbook. Anything messages I send from my iPhone do not show up at all on iMessages on my Macbook. I've tried signing out of all of my accounts and signing back in to no avail. I've searched other forums as well with no success. Any suggestions??
