Battery shows dead when fully charged

My mother in-laws ipad pro shows that battery is dead when fully charged. When you plug it in it does nothing. You have to keep it plugged in and do hard reboots and this could take numerous times before it will actually start. Battery life shows 85%. No dust in charging port. Tried multiple chargers all do the same thing.
