iMessage I changed my number

I started using my new iPhone with a new number before porting my old one across. Now I can delete that number from iMessage or FaceTime and it’s messing up my account. People are having trouble contacting me.

I have tried to deactivate it but can’t receive the code that it wants to send as I don’t have a phone using that number!

If the phone number that you want to remove belongs to an iPhone that you can't access, change your Apple ID password. This removes all phone numbers from your iPad, iPod touch, and Mac. Calls or messages for the removed numbers won't appear on those devices anymore.

The above line is from this help page...Add or remove your phone number in Messages or FaceTime - Apple Support

This usually works, however should it not see the very last line on this help page which says...If you still need help, change your Apple ID password and repeat the setup steps. If that doesn't work, contact Apple Support.
