i added more memory to my old iMac which is now obsolete. I am getting a new one but wondered whether the memory cards I added to the old one held data, and if I should remove them before sending it for recycling?

Do you mean memory chips or the internal hard disk drive?
If you mean the hard disk drive then I removed my old one to use as a backup device.
If you actually mean the memory chips, they are flash memory only and you should not need to remove them, if unsure just pop them out, depending on the age of your old iMac you will probably not be able to reuse these memory chips in your new machine.

No, there is no data on them.
They were both 4gb cards to increase the RAM
No I realize that, but wondered if they would be good for anyone else but didn’t want to offer them if they contained personal data
This is flash memory and every time you turn off your computer they get 'flushed' so nothing of consequence on them. However I would pop them out, safety first in all respects here.
