iPad Remains Locked After Update

I purchased a new iPad and it worked fine all day yesterday until I updated it. Now it will not unlock after I enter my pass code. It will not allow me to use touch access without first using the pass code. I do not get a disabled warning, it just remains locked. Any suggestions?

Try a forced restart and see if you can enter the code once the iPad reboots.

iPad models with Face ID: Press and quickly release the Volume Up button. Press and quickly release the Volume Down button. Then press and hold the Power button until the device restarts.
iPad with Home button, iPhone 6s or earlier, and iPod touch (6th generation) or earlier: Press and hold both the Home and the Top (or Side) buttons until you see the Apple logo.

If it is disabled now, you have to follow these steps to unlock it.

If you forgot the passcode for your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, or your device is disabled - Apple Support

Thanks for your response but that didn’t help. Now states iPad is disabled try again in 5 minutes after entering my code. First time after entering it multiple times. Also states press home to unlock but that doesn’t work. Very exasperating.
