You are keeping the replacement forever.

Apple does not repair customer iPads.

To expedite fast customer service, Apple does in or out-of-warranty device replacements.

The iPad you shipped back will be repaired and refurbished by Apple/Apple refurbishment contractors, and Apple will sell your repaired iPad as a refurbished iPad in Apple’s Refurbished & Clearance Website store.
