MacBook Pro 16" Dongle Support

Hey.

Since I got my MBP 16" I've been experiencing that some dongles and accessories that still work with my old MacBook (USB-C) and my old Macbook Pro 15" (2016) DO NOT work with my new MBP 16". For example: several HDMI display adapters to send the signal to TVs or projectors, a XQD card adapter and a Mini-DVI to Thunderbolt 3 adapter to connect my LED Cinema Display (this one works with the smaller Macbook, but NOT with this, top of the line, MBP 16". I don't understand what's happening. Some things work, like drives and such, but others don't. I even have two Sony XQD adapters (one is older that the other one) and the newer one works on every computer, while the older one does not work with the MBP 16". Is there like an updated protocol or something that prevents backwards compatibility? Has anybody experienced something like this? If this is an issue with my Mac, how does that work? Select devices not working while others do. Can I troubleshoot this somehow?

I purchased the computer in the US, but I can't go back to the US now, social distancing and everything.

Cinema Display:

For your Cinema Display, this is the adapter you need: USB-C to Mini DisplayPort Adapter 4K@60Hz - Silver.

What's happening with the Cinema Display is that it is the amperage/voyage that are getting in the way - this adapter equals it out.

As it Reads: "With a USB-C power delivery port, you can seamlessly power your Apple MacBook 2016+ and MacBook Pro 2016+ with Touch Bar and use the Mini DisplayPort simultaneously."

"I just got the UpTab adapter. I had high hopes for it. But it didn't work. It cannot be that after all this trying I got a faulty adapter, right? But that could be, because this one doesn't work with the MacBook or the Mac Book Pro 16".

Oh, and is it normal for the male MiniDVI connector from the monitor to stick out like 1/8"?"

Thanks! I just purchased that one to test it out. I’ll let you know how it works. [...]Funny it works with the MacBook laptop. I guess I just need updated specs dongles.

You are welcome.

I use the dongle I mentioned on my Cinema Displays and 2018 MBP.

Learned of it, years back prior to taking part in these forums (for just over a year now). So, it has been a well-known solution for a while now. Works like a charm.

Reply back, letting us know how it works out.
