iPhone not automatically connecting to Mac

My iPhone won’t connect automatically to my MAc when I connect via USB. It previously did and asked to download photos etc, but now isn’t even recognized by the Mac. I updated all available updates but it didn’t make any difference. Any suggestions? Something in settings?

Use your USB lightening cable --> Resolve USB-related alerts in iTunes - Apple Support
If unable to connect --> If iTunes doesn't recognize your iPhone, iPad, or iPod - Apple Support
Use genuine cable --> Identify counterfeit or uncertified Lightning connector accessories ...
