SuperDrive malfunction

My desktop Mac is c.2015 and I'm in OS Catalina.

I burned three new disks: Maxell DVD-R, Memorex CD-R and Panasonic DVD-RAM. My Mac SuperDrive has reliably opens other disks. But it doesn't open these three.

Why can't I open any of these three disks?

It depends entirely on what is on those disks: are they files, photos, videos, or what? Videos need to be burned with an authoring burn app (not Finder) in order to play as they need to be in a certain format. You should be able to burn files through the finder though.

Aside from that, using disks like that as a "backup" is not necessarily the best idea - external hard drives are best for that.

Thanks. Photos, maybe videos, word files - all files that I've never had trouble with before. Also, I can play older backup disks and download music disks for listening on the computer.

Let it be a mystery. I'll stick to backup drives.

Another possibility is the failure of the drive - the superslim format makes failures common; I've had to have two of them replaced in two different Macs, so i bought an external burner/player a long time ago. It is a tray loading drive, reads anything, and works reliably.
