No it's not neccessary,if the watch detects water the water lock kicks in and stops any accidental screen touches,I personally wouldn't wear a watch in the shower,soap,shower gel and shampoo contain chemicals that would lessen the water resistance of the watch over time as well as possible cosmetic damage.
