I updated my MacBook Pro to Catalina, and I have not been able to get it to boot up since. I can hear it trying to start, but the screen remains black. Any ideas on how to fix this?

When you hear the startup sound, immediately hold down Command-Alt-P-R; your Mac should re-boot. Keep holding them down until you hear four restarts (or two minutes ... whichever happens first.)
