Not receiving all my messages from other apple users.

I have always had imessage turned off for years as I prefer standard messages.

For some reason now, I am not receiving messages from other apple users as their phones are trying to send imessage instead of standard messages.

I have never had any issues sending or receiving messages from these contacts in the past.

How do I solve this problem so that all contacts are always sending standard (green) messages to me?
