Chrome Application Support Extensions Folder Using 15.3GB (Mac)??

I was doing a sweep of my mac using OmniDiskSweeper, and found a folder (Application Support > Google > Chrome > Default > Extensions) that is stated to be taking up 15.3 GB. Four folders within the Extensions folder are taking up 3.5 GB, 3.2 GB, 1.8 GB, and 1.5 GB respectively.

I tried to find this folder on Finder, but when I click on the Google folder under Application Support, I only see a file named CloudManagement and a folder named DriveFS.

I would like to delete the large folders to free up space but I'm really confused about what to do, please help!!

Hi there. The folder you are referring to is where Google Chrome stores data related to any extensions installed in Chrome. This can easily be resolved by removing any unused and/or bloated extensions from Chrome. Once an extension is removed from Chrome, it should be removed from this folder as well.

As for not being able to see the folder, I think you might be looking in the wrong spot. The folder is located at:

/Users/<your_user_name>/Library/Application Support/Google/Chrome/Default/Extensions

The Library folder is hidden by default. There are several ways to access it. If you only want temporary easy access to it do this:

  1. Open a new Finder window
  2. Hold down the option key on your keyboard and click Go in the menu bar
  3. Scroll down and click on Library

From here you can follow the path to the Extensions folder.

If you'd rather unhide the Library permanently, it's even easier:

  1. Open a new Finder window and navigate to your user folder
  2. Press command + J on the keyboard to open View Options.
  3. Click the checkbox that says Show Library Folder
