My AirPods won’t connect together

My AirPods both seem to work but won’t work together at a time. Only one connects at a time. I’ve charged my AirPods and case and I’ve tried forgetting the device on settings and reconnecting it multiple times it just won’t seem to connect together. I don’t know what to do. Any advice or ideas I can attempt?
