I rarely use iTunes on my computer anymore, so wasn't aware. My understanding is the App comes from Apple and Apple sends out updates to it. I also didn't think you could download iTunes to a Windows computer unless you download it from the Microsoft Store. See Apple's link on this --> Download and use iTunes for Windows - Apple Support
In the most recent version of iTunes there has been a problem with the version that Microsoft offered for download compared to the Windows version that was offered on Apple and it prevented restoring/updating the iDevices in some instances.
Make sure you have the most current version of iTunes (download the one from Apple's site, not Microsoft), connect your iPhone and when iTunes opens select Update.
Why don't you like the Microsoft iTunes? I've used it quite successfully for a long time.
They can't send out updates via the PC, they send it to Microsoft who makes it available for update. Microsoft may have fixed this by now but for quite a while it was an issue.
I had to restore my iPhone some time ago using the Microsoft App on my HP Spectre an didn't have any issues.
The question I have is can you download iTunes directly anymore?
I guess you were special. Of course I don't know what some time ago means. And yes Windows users can download it directly.
All good to know. As I mentioned, I don't use iTunes for much of anything anymore.
