Can I remotely change my iPad password to prevent someone who knows it from getting into it without the erasing my device

Your iPad Passcode cannot be remotely changed. However, if the iPad has an active network connection, the iPad can be remotely disabled. Use these procedures:

If your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch is lost or stolen – Apple Support

Use the Find My app to locate a lost or stolen device – Apple Support
