iPhone backup setting keeps changing to iCloud

The backup option for my iPhone keeps changing from "Back up all of the data on your iPhone to this Mac" to the iCloud setting automatically. I want my iPhone to back up to my MacBook Air, and not to iCloud.

I am running macOS Catalina 10.15.7 and iOS 14.1.

Every time I Sync the phone, or leave the page and refresh it, the Back Up option keeps changing to the iCloud option.

It's the same issue seen in these threads:

Has anyone else seen this, and found a solution for it?

To be clear, I WANT it to back up to my computer, and NOT to iCloud. Because it always reverts to iCloud, it does not periodically back up to my MacBook, which means my backup is never up to date, unless I initiate it manually, which is a pain. I need the button to stay on "Back up to my computer" so it initiates the back up automatically during the night.

Sometimes that happens to me and I just ignore that option if I can’t change it. I just backup anyway and it has never failed to backup. I always check to be sure that the backup succeeded in iTunes>Preferences>Devices. I realize that you don’t have iTunes in Catalina, but there has to be a way to see your backups similar to the way it worked in earlier Mac OS versions.

You can try turning off the iCloud backup in the settings on your phone and then enable it again after you backup to your Mac. I know this isn’t a fix, I’m just saying that no matter how that option is checked, I can still backup to my Mac.

One final note and I don’t think this has any bearing on it, I never auto sync my devices. I backup and sync manually.
