Why am I unable to connect with Facetime when logged onto my wifi?

If I am on wifi I get the "connecting" message but it goes no further. This happens on both my MacBook Pro 16 and my iPhone 11 Pro. I can connect and use FT if I log off my wifi home network and use a cellular connection on the phone. I am using a Netgear router.
