Apple News App Excessive Data Usage

I just exceeded my Infinity data caps (1.2 TB) this month (Dec 20th). It seems the it's due to my Apple News app downloading 12-15 GB A DAY on my Mac Mini. This equals about 300-400 GB a month! How do I stop it from automatically downloading updates??

I've tried deleting the app but it doesn't delete. I wound up having to shut off my network access to my Mac Mini until the end of the month.

I've seen this question asked about ipads/iphones and the option is to change cellular settings. This, however is a Mac Mini desktop so how do I do this?

Mac mini, macOS 11.1
