how do i sync music from my mac to my iphone

I'm having trouble figuring out how to sync music I've uploaded via CD onto my Mac to sync onto my iPhone 8. I'm not very good at this stuff. it use to be a lot easier 10 years ago, now its forcing you to "buy" Apple Music> I have tons of CDs and I'm trying to upload them onto my Mac then onto my iphone.

See Sync your iPhone, iPad, or iPod using your computer - Apple Support. You don't need a subscription to Apple Music unless you want one.
