Phone scams

A local phone was used to advise me that my I-cloud's security has been compromised, "...press 1 to speak with a security specialist, press 2 to hang up...". Pressing either of those buttons is neither advised nor required to hang up! Apple states, they "...will never 'cold call' a customer...". My issue is, the only advice for this type of scam seems to be, "...block the number..." or "...block all unidentified numbers...". This neither fixes nor addresses the real problem. Is there anyone at Apple that is assigned to security and fraud that should be chasing these phone numbers? Or is the problem too hard to handle? Maybe too far 'out of control'? Maybe such obvious attempts at fraud should be reported to the Attorney General's office? Anybody have answers?

You can report fraudulent tech support calls to the Federal Trade Commission (U.S. only) at www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov or to your local law enforcement agency.

Personally I don't bother. The number displayed for the incoming call is usually spoofed and not the actual number. Silence unknown callers works well for me. Detect and block spam phone calls - Apple Support
