You are correct - in that the second generation Apple Pencil is not compatible with iPad mini5. The mini5 is only compatible with the first generation Pencil.

Why are you so upset?

You chose the wrong version Apple Pencil.

Not a big problem.

This picking of the correct Apple Pencil version to the correct/appropriate iPad models seems to be quite a regular occurance here.

The new iPad Mini 5 uses the original 1st generation Apple Pencil with the silver, chrome, metallised top with magnetic cap.

No biggie.

Just return the Apple Pencil 2, get your money back and purchase the cheaper 1st gen Apple Pencil, instead.

Other than the different ways they charge and pair and the lack of a double tap button, the 1st gen Apple Pencil works exactly the same as the 1st gen Apple Pencil.
