MacBook Air [Lion] not installing...

How to install an old MacBook Air [with pre-installed Lion pattion] with a freshly wiped harddisk to OSX like Yosemite [or newer]?

The machine was working fine, owner decides to wipe the harddrive, now:

  • Getting Blinking ? Folder [then reboot with command R].
  • Net install [connected via Wifi] is not working [negative installation time], Error: "Can't download the additional components needed to install Mac OS X".
  • No Option to select a Startup Disk.
  • Disk Util says harddrive is fine.
  • Setting Date to December 2011.
  • Redoing Net Install, same troubles.
  • Thinking the LION certificate is invalid [2021].
  • Apple Support is Silent [Lion not supported], but Hardware is hardware and shouldn't expire due to software, right? Not very Environmental "green" friendly.

Additional: Can't create a bootable USB with a Yotemite download from a newer Mojave Macbook Pro.

Hi,

Try to turn on your MacBook Air with option+command+r instead of command+r which could reinstall latest macOs for your MacBook Air.
