My iOS encrypted backup won't fit on my new phone

My iOS encrypted backup on my computer is bigger than the size of my new iPhone and is too large to be loaded. It was 234 before and now it is over 256. What should I do? I already erased all content and settings, so that is my only complete back up? Not sure what to do. thanks!

Since you cannot extract individual data from the backup or add more storage to the phone, you have basically two options:

  1. Forget the backup, set the phone up as new, and hope you had iCloud enabled on the previous phone to sync as much data as possible.

or

2. Return the new phone and get one with more storage to accommodate your backup.
