where has search function gone in iOS?

I am getting a greyed out screen when I drag down from middle to search my device. What’s happened to the search function?

Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Yep a restart seems to have solved it.

I didn’t get the issue on my iPad Pro which is why I was looking to see if this was a known issue or not.
