Please read this: Understanding Water Resistance

NO iPhone should EVER be submerged to ANY depth.

They are splash resistant. No more. The depth and time specifications for water resistance refer to laboratory testing under controlled conditions.

The same thing applies to watches. In the watch world, if a watch is not rated to at least 50 Meters of water resistance, it should NEVER be submerged and will probably be destroyed if it is. The iPhone is no different. Nor is any electronic device.
