Cannot connect to wi-fi after installing 14.5.1 or 14.6

Hello again!


I have reset my phone with 14.5.1 and reconnected to the wifi on the router. I have the problem that it will not connect to the internet. I get the connection to my wi-fi; my PCs and iPad all connect to the internet from the same router. After resetting again, I tried to install 14.6, But the phone could not install 14.6 as the message was that the iCloud Restore was still running. I reset my phone, checked that 14.5.1 was running and then updated to 14.6. I was asked to update manually or put my phone near my iPad. I tried to use the iPad but the phone would not connect. I have tried to restore from my previous backup and now have the same problem as last time. All my personal apps are greyed out with the message 'waiting'! This is exactly the same problem I had after trying to restore from 14.5.1. I now have wifi from my iPad, but no wi-fi indicator on my iPhone. I have looked at all the messages about the same problem and have tried everything. Where do I go from here? This has now been going on for 2 weeks!

Reset Network Settings: Only network settings are removed.

  • When you reset network settings, previously used networks and VPN settings that weren’t installed by a configuration profile or mobile device management (MDM) are removed. Wi-Fi is turned off and then back on, disconnecting you from any network you’re on. The Wi-Fi and Ask to Join Networks settings remain turned on.
  • To remove VPN settings installed by a configuration profile, go to Settings > General > Profiles & Device Management, select the configuration profile, then tap Remove Profile. This also removes other settings and accounts provided by the profile. See Install or remove configuration profiles on iPhone in this guide.
  • To remove network settings installed by MDM, go to Settings > General > Profiles & Device Management, select the management, then tap Remove Management. This also removes other settings and certificates provided by MDM. See “Mobile device management (MDM)” in the iOS Deployment Reference.
  • Reset your Network Settings. Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. This also resets Wi-Fi networks and passwords, cellular settings, and VPN and APN settings that you've used before.


If the above fails...



Reset All Settings: All settings—including network settings, the keyboard dictionary, the Home screen layout, location settings, privacy settings, and Apple Pay cards—are removed or reset to their defaults. No data or media are deleted.

  1. Reset All Settings: Return iPhone settings to their defaults - Apple Support:- Return iPhone settings to their defaults
  2. You can return settings to their defaults without erasing your content.
  3. If you want to save your settings, back up iPhone before returning them to their defaults. For example, if you’re trying to solve a problem but returning settings to their defaults doesn’t help, you might want to restore your previous settings from a backup.

As I stated in my original message, I have done a full reset as the system would not allow me to update to 14.6. So I have now reset my iPhone at least 5 times. None of the suggestions has helped. Is there a reason why my iPhone cannot be synchronized to my iPad? Is this possibly another symptom of the problem? Some unknown communication issue which appears to be an inability to connect to the internet/wifi, but is actually a general communication problem. When I try to set up my wifi connection everything looks normal. I can configure my primary wi-fi and my booster. I can communicate between my Windows 10 PC and my iPhone and iPad with cables.

The problem occurs whether I use standalone AVG Secure VPN, or connect through AVG Mobile Security on an Apple iPhone 8+. When I go to 'settings' and 'VPN' it shows 'connected', even though both are turned off. At the top of the 'VPN'

screen, it shows 'Status - connected' with the slider to the right on a green background. The wifi symbol is showing together with 'VPN'. If I slide the toggle to the left the wifi and VPN symbols disappear and are replaced with '4G', then it automatically reconnects. When I check on the 'AVG VPN' and 'AVG Security' icons, they both show that it is turned off, and 'auto-connect' is turned off. The iPhone connects again automatically, so I don't know what the phone thinks it is connecting to!


The problem only appeared after the iPhone was updated to software revision 14.5.1 from 14.5. It is now on 14.6.


On my iPad running the same software, almost everything works as expected. After I reset my iPhone it would not connect to the iPad to copy the configuration, until I set up the iPhone as a network location on the iPad. Then most setting and programs were transferred. If I turn off the VPN connections on the iPad they turn back on automatically!


There are no error messages. When I try to connect to the internet I just get the cartwheel rotating.


How widespread is this problem? As it appeared after the change to version 14.5.1 does this mean that it is a software bug and is it going to be fixed? Is it possible to go back to 14.5, just to test on a previously working system? Please!!!

In addition to the above problem, I can't sync the iPhone to the PC on iTunes. It won't even list it as a device! I have tried removing my iPhone from the list in iTunes/account. It will not identify a new device and diagnostics will not show anything useful. Then iTunes stops working!b When I reboot the PC and phone, I get an error as expected, that the iPhone is locked with a password, so iTunes can see the iPhone on the devices list, but 'sync' is greyed out, so I can't copy my music to my iPhone! I am able to back up my iPhone, so I know that it is visible to iTunes. When I look under 'sharing' I see that 'The Bonjour Service has been disabled'. I have reinstalled Bonjour.
