I picked up a couple of Philips High Speed USB-C to USB 3.0 adapters from Target and they work fine.

The branded USB-C to USB adapter is over priced in comparison to the ones that Rudgar and I offered.

A better solution than a single adapter is an ORICO Aluminum Alloy 7 Port USB3.0 HUB with 30W Power Adapter connected to the 24" iMac with a USB-C to USB Adapter. This configuration provides for many options and ORICO also have a 10 port hub available. It works well on the new iMac; my first 733 GB backup took less than 90 minutes.
