Google Maps is not giving voice guidance

Is there some bug or hindrance to Google Maps giving voice directions? I have bluetooth off and volume up but only Apple Maps seems to give voice guidance. Hmm...????U

That’s a question for Google support, who provides the app. It’s probably a setting in the app, but I just looked and couldn’t find it.
