Restore Using Migration Assistant and Time Machine for Specific Date

How do I use Migration Assistant on a newly re-installed OS to recover all settings, files, apps, etc. from a specific date? I know I can recover individual files using Time Machine, but I need to have the entire computer restored to a specific date. I see the dates of all my backups in Time Machine, but Migration Assistant doesn't provide a choice of dates when I go through the restore process. The only date that appears is the date of the last backup--which is after things went badly with the laptop. I need to restore from an earlier date.

You still use TM. Start using command-R then pick restore from TM. Continue and it will show a list of dates (they are in the Mac HD-Data volume.) Pick the date you want and continue to restore. This will erase your drive and restore everything from that date.
